Diabetes is tough enough without being confronted with discrimination at work or school; having your driving license suspended due to a low blood sugar incident; being refused proper and necessary care by a health insurance carrier, HMO, nursing home, or other caregiver.
I have Type One diabetes, and have faced some of these problems in my own life and worked with thousands of ohers over the past twenty years in handling legal problems related to diabetes.
As a volunteer for the Diabetes Control and Complications Trial (“DCCT”) sponsored by the United States National Institutes of Health, I learned early on how to manage and live well with diabetes. It wasn’t easy. Along the way I faced many of the problems that those of us with a serious chronic illness often face but, as an attorney, I had the knowledge and background to find a way to respond without my rights, interests and health being compromised.
I set up this website, Diabetes Attorney, as a way to work with others and to offer guidance and legal assistance on diabetes related legal matters. I have lectured across the country for 100,000 people while working with the San Diego based non-profit Taking Control of Your Diabetes since it began and published my work on legal issues and diabetes in three of their books, as well as in Diabetes Health.
